Visit Maldives: your travel guide
Everything you need to plan your trip: when to go, how to get there, what it costs and how to choose a resort.
Best time to visit Maldives
December to April is dry season: sunshine, calm seas and the highest prices. May to November is wet season: short showers, lower prices, manta rays and whale sharks.
Visa & entry
Most nationalities get a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival. You need a passport valid for 6 months, a confirmed hotel booking, a return ticket and the online IMUGA traveller declaration within 96 hours of arrival. Check current rules before you travel.
Getting there
International flights land at Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Direct and one-stop flights connect from the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Resort transfers
- Speedboat: resorts near Malé, 15–60 minutes
- Seaplane: scenic 30–60 minute flights, daytime only
- Domestic flight + boat: for far atolls
Budget
Resort stays usually range from about $300 to $3,000+ per night for two, plus meal plan and transfers. All-inclusive plans often save money on longer stays.
Choosing a resort
Decide on transfer type, villa type (beach or overwater), meal plan and the house reef. Couples may prefer adults-only islands. Families should look for kids' clubs and family villas. Not sure? Ask us for free.
